November 2021: Getting Unstuck

I recently heard a sermon and the pastor said "Most of us are either stuck, drowning, surviving or thriving.*"  I would love to think everyone is thriving; but, that is a very Pollyanna view of the world.  So I'd like to address those of us who are stuck, drowning or surviving as it relates to health issues.  For purposes of this blog, health issues are defined as weight management, dietary challenges or control of a non life-threatening health condition such as migraines, joint pain, eczema, IBS, pre-diabetic, brain fog, mild anxiety, etc.  All of these areas can seem overwhelming when we are in the thick of life, especially given circumstances in the last 20 months.

One of the concepts my clients learn about when working with me is Primary vs Secondary foods.  This concept is basically that Primary foods are those things like job, finances, exercise, spiritual life, friends...general stress & anxiety, which greatly impact our life.  Secondary foods, are those we put on our plates.  When there is synergy missing in the area of Primary food, many things in our health will suffer.  Primary foods feed us, but they don't come on a plate.

What areas of your life are out of whack?  Are they in your control to make changes?  Do you use them as an excuse to eat?  Perhaps you use them as a crutch to consume too much alcohol?  Or to avoid the gym?  Maybe you stay home and binge on TV instead of socializing?  These are all common reactions to being overwhelmed by life; but, they are usually because we are mired in the muck and need help to reprioritize, set goals, and generally - get a new perspective!   Remember the old story about a truck that gets stuck under a bridge due to it's height?  Someone had the smart idea to deflate the tires.  Voila, a new perspective to the problem!

I have many tools which will help you assess your Primary and Secondary food challenges, make small changes, and get you on a journey to better health.  Reach out to me for more details!

In good health,

Jackie
