I recently made a few changes, all of which were challenging to my daily routine. Some have been easier than others. One of those was giving up added salt. Suffice it to say that I salted everything I ate…even apples! Yeah, it was becoming an addiction. Read More

When I think of Spring, I think renew, refresh, revive.  Out with old and in with the new.  Grow and flourish.  This is the time of year most people open windows and clean house in preparation for nice weather, saying goodbye to winter.  Cleaning house is not just our physical house, but a metaphor for making changes to feel better in our bodies.   Read More

Will-power by definition is to exert control or restrain impulses.  That makes it sound so easy, yet it’s elusive to many of us trying to get control of our health.  That may include things such as losing weight, avoiding alcohol, making choices that correct health conditions or getting that workout done. I recently heard a sermon and the pastor said "Most of us are either stuck, drowning, surviving or thriving.*" I would love to think everyone is thriving; but, that is a very Pollyanna view of the world. Wow, if there is one thing I've learned during this last 18 months of working all day every day in my house, it's that I can multi-task very well.  Somehow I am able to type and mindlessly eat at the same time.  Food appears on my desk without me remembering how it got there!  Read More

We all know berries are healthy, but do you know why? Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are all coming into season. These tiny fruits pack a huge health punch! Loaded with antioxidants (think cancer fighting), low glycemic (think good for blood sugar) and aiding cognitive function (think, well just think!) these pretty colored fruits help you avoid a myriad of health conditions.

In addition to fighting cancer, gently supporting blood sugar and helping your brain, these little gems also have fiber - raspberries and blackberries having the highest. In short, fiber is super important in your daily diet. Fiber slows down your system for better nutrient absorption, helps keep your colon healthy (who doesn’t want that?!), aids in fighting cancer and fills you up so you eat less calories.

Berries also help fight inflammation. This is so important for avoiding many diseases/conditions such as type II diabetes, heart disease, obesity, arthritis, eczema, migraines.

So, eat your berries and get your health on!

In good health,
Jackie
